Leah K Scott, JP, MP Junior Minister of Education and Economic Development


Leah K Scott, with both British and American citizenship, is Corporate Secretary and Legal Counsel for the Harbour Group of Companies in Hamilton, Bermuda.  Miss Scott was admitted to the Bermuda Bar in September 2005 and worked as an associateon the  Private Client and Trust Team for a local Bermuda law firmand on the corporate insurance team for its subsidiary in  Mahe, Victoria, Seychelles.  Her practice included advising on both private and commercial local and international trust structures, participating in multi-million dollar structured financing transactions, establishment and administration of private trust companies, estate planning, will drafting and the administration of local estates.

Miss Scott has authored and been published in various local and international publications including the World's Leading Financial & Trust Centres,  the High Net Worth Journal, International Offshore Services, BNA Tax Planning Review andthe Royal Gazette, as well as being a contributor to Tottel's Planning and Administration of Offshore and Onshore Trusts and International Succession.

Miss Scott obtained the professional designation as an International Trust and Estates Practitioner (TEP) from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (also known as "STEP") in 2008, and since that time has been a member of the STEP Bermuda  Branch in various capacities, including Secretary, Education Liaison, Bermuda Representative for the STEP Caribbean Conference Steering Committee and Deputy Chairman and President of the Seychelles Chapter of STEP. She retired as Deputy Chairman of STEP in 2013 and now sits on the Executive of the Bermuda Association of Licensed Trustees. Miss Scott also serves as a Non-Executive Director of a variety of Bermuda and international companies.

On December 17, 2012, Miss Scott was elected to serve as a Member of Parliament and served in the Cabinet from 18 December 2012 to 15 December 2013 as Minister Without Portfolio.  On 15 December 2013, as a result of a Cabinet re-shuffle, Miss  Scott was appointed to her current position of Junior Minister of Education and Economic Development.

Miss Scott is also involved in several community groups and efforts.  She currently sits on the board of the Sunshine League and is a former director of P.R.I.D.E. She is also a former Youth Net Mentor and has been mentor to  many young men and women in the community.  Miss Scott recognizes the value of investing in our youth, and she believes that all people everywhere must continue toinvest ineducation, not only to meet the needs of today, but to encourage developing minds for the future.

Miss Scott is the proud mother of one son, Tyler, and the proud grandmother of one granddaughter, Yaniah.
